How rotary evaporator works

  • The structure of the rotary evaporator is very simple, mainly composed of a motor, heating pot, distillation flask, condenser, collection bottle, etc.  Generally, in order to improve work efficiency, many customers will choose to match vacuum pumps and cooling water bath / chiller.  The following picture is a simple structure diagram and vacuum pump, low temperature chiller picture, hope to bring you a reference.

     


  • The principle of rota evaporator is also very simple, that is, under the vacuum conditions, constant temperature heating makes the evaporation bottle rotate at a constant speed, and the material forms a large-area film on the wall of the evaporating flask, so as to evaporate efficiently. The steam rises, is cooled by a glass condenser (cooling water bath is optional), and is finally recycled into the collection bottle to achieve the purpose of solvent removal, alcohol recovery, concentration, crystallization, drying and separation. 



  • 1. Material is charging into evaporation flask, vacuum is applied to the system, which lowers the temperature of the distillation.


    2. Evaporation flask is heated by water bath and rotates.


    3. Material is evaporated ( boiled ) forming a vapor which travels into the condenser.


    4. Condenser coils chill the vapor and condense it back to a liquid.


    5. Distillate drips from condenser coils down to receiving.
